Every year, I find myself counting down the days to an event that has become an annual tradition among us: “The Gun Show.” This annual photoshoot of Betsy and Julies’ anniversary is not just about flexing their muscles; it’s about flexing their sense of humor and style! This year, we gathered in the quirky and beautiful Joshua Tree, where the only thing more stunning than the scenery was our ability to make each other laugh.
The evening was cool and calm, which is a fancy way of saying we were all too busy trying to look cool to notice the temperature. Thankfully, the usual desert inhabitants, like snakes, decided to stay hidden this time. I guess they heard about our photo ops and thought, “No way, I’m not getting caught in that!” However, a cheeky squirrel made a brief appearance, probably thinking he was auditioning for a role in our next group photo. He wasn’t pictured, but you all will see him soon…
This event is particularly special to me because I’ve known Betsy and Julie since their wedding on Coronado Beach in 2016. Back then, I thought, “Wow, these two are made for each other…” and I had just met them! Little did I know I would be getting tickets to the Gunshow every year! VIP!!
As we posed against the breathtaking landscapes of Joshua Tree, I couldn’t help but think about how each photoshoot captures not just their smiles but also the complexity of their relationship. From the time Julie tried to strike a pose and ended up almost tripping over a rock, to Betsy’s attempt at a serious face that turned into a full-on laugh attack, every moment is a gem. Their friend Lauren also had to make sure she was not forgotten (pictured near last)
So here’s to many more years of “The Gun Show,” where we celebrate the joy of being together, adventures, more state park visits, and other places!
