Back in 2016, I received an unexpected message from Betsy, inviting me to photograph her intimate elopement in Coronado. I jokingly told her I only attend weddings for the cake, but I’d make an exception for her big day. To my delight, she took that as a challenge and brought along some spectacular cupcakes! Who knew I could be bribed so easily?
Fast forward a few years, and that whimsical elopement turned into a hilarious annual tradition: The Gunshow Anniversary photoshoot. Every year, I get VIP tickets, which is basically my version of winning a golden ticket. It’s like walking around with a couple of friends who just happen to have great personalities and even better stories. I find myself snapping photos in between fits of laughter, often wondering how we’ve managed to make our shoots this much fun. They even make it a tradition to bring me a new treat every year. This year was a yummy chocolate bar from Rose’s Donuts. The most memorable was actually the very first one where they brought a stunning cupcake and my dumbass said “It will be ok here on this rock” Mind you this rock was way far from the water and high up. A gigantic wave came up and washed that thing down 10 feet. It was rescued and there was only a little sand in my mouth.
This year’s adventure took us to the Coronado Ferry Landing, a place near and dear to my heart. I spent a lot of my teenage years there talking for hours on the park benches in deep conversations. So when I get to come back, it’s a new memory made. I was back in Coronado, camera in hand, surrounded by Betsy and Julie, who have survived many things most marriages wouldn’t last through (but not a remodel yet… that’s coming).
Can we also talk about Julie’s fabulous shoes? Both every year dressed to impress
I can’t wait for next year’s Gunshow! Here’s to more treats, more laughter, and who knows—maybe a cupcake cannon? Let the shenanigans continue!
